Hi there,

We're thrilled to roll out a powerful new capability to the Abyssale Design Builder: Masked Groups!

We know that building polished, complex creatives requires fine control over what's visible and until now, achieving that meant destructive edits or awkward workarounds. Today, that changes. You can now clip any group of layers to a custom shape, revealing only what matters, without ever touching the underlying content.

What's New with Masked Groups?

  • Non-Destructive Clipping: Define a mask shape that controls the visible area of every layer inside a group. The layers themselves remain fully intact and editable at all times — no pixels are permanently removed.
  • One-Click Conversion: Turn any existing group into a Masked Group instantly. Simply select your group and click Convert to Masked Group in the right panel. A mask layer is automatically added at the top of the group stack.
  • Flexible Mask Shapes: Choose between a Rectangle (perfect for banner crops, image frames, and card layouts) or a Circle (ideal for avatars, circular thumbnails, and badge-style designs). Switch between shapes at any time without losing your position or size adjustments.
  • Full Artboard Control: Move, resize, and rotate the mask directly on the canvas using drag handles, just like any other layer. The visible clipping area updates in real time.
  • Pixel-Perfect Panel Editing: For precise adjustments, set exact X, Y, Width, Height, and Rotation values directly from the right panel.
  • Works on Everything: Masking applies to any layer type, images, shapes, and texts, all clipped by the same mask within the group.
  • Fully Stackable: A Masked Group behaves like a regular group in the rest of your design. Move it, nest it, or apply transformations to it as a whole.

How It Works

Using Masked Groups is straightforward:

  1. Group your layers: Select the layers you want to clip and press Ctrl / Cmd + G, or click Group Layers in the right panel.
  2. Convert to Masked Group: With the group selected, click Convert to Masked Group in the right panel. A mask layer instantly appears at the top of the group.
  3. Choose your shape: Select the mask layer and pick Rectangle or Circle from the shape option in the right panel.
  4. Position & resize: Drag the mask on the canvas, or enter exact values in the panel to frame your content exactly as you want it.
  5. Edit freely: Your original layers remain fully editable inside the group at all times.

Now you can create circular thumbnails, framed image reveals, and precisely cropped layouts in seconds, all without flattening a single layer.

Enjoy a more powerful and flexible design experience in your Abyssale workspace!
